Microcredit - Essay Example From the examination paper of Agnes Loteta Dimandja, the affordable status of Africa and the status of the ladies of the district and the current circumstance of the nation in setting of the human privileges of the ladies can be briefly comprehended. Insights from IMF, World Bank and other organization uncovered that the most unfortunate individual on the earth lives in the Sub-Saharan Africa and presumably she is a lady. According to the current circumstance of the Africa, where the fundamental human right are being abused, ladies are denied their pride. It has been seen that the ladies in these social orders came to be a portion of the primary survivors of the continuous circumstance of savagery and this is a direct result of their inner wars. Ladies in these countries are found to ask for harmony as harmony is something that should exist as the vital condition for advancement. This image delineates the overwhelmed position of the African ladies (Dimandja, 2004). Niara Sudarkasa has led an investigation with respect to the status of the ladies in the indigenous African Society. According to her view, in the African Societies the female and the male have been consistently portrayed as the correlative and independent. Generally it has been seen that, at whatever point any essayist analyze female and male in Africa, in the greater part of the events, they guarantee men with a higher status and to be in a superior circumstance and the ladies are depicted as a seat in home and home life (Sudarkasa, 1986). Brazil’s Political Factor in Business
Political factor by ashraful islam Trade Policies in political factor Brazil's monetary history has been affected surprisingly by remote exchange patterns and strategies. Progressive patterns of fare blasts in such wares as sugar, gold and precious stones, elastic, and espresso assumed significant jobs in Brazilian improvement before World War II. During the 1930s, the breakdown of espresso costs flagged a turn internal, bringing about a beginning industrialization. In succeeding decades, mechanical advancement was cultivated purposely through prohibitive exchange arrangements, making Brazil a generally shut economy by the mid-1960s.Only in the mid 1990s did Brazil start critical progression of its exchange strategies, and even these changes were unobtrusive by correlation with those in various other Latin American countries. Government intercession in remote exchange has a long history in Brazil, coming to back to the pilgrim time frame when Portugal restricted Brazilian exchange wi th different countries. Following autonomy in 1822, Brazil opened its ports and extended its exchange with different countries, especially Britain. Broad government guideline of exchange proceeded, in any case, with levies giving over portion of the administration's income before World War I.Other types of mediation in exchange incorporated the 1906 espresso value bolster plan, which was an advanced endeavor to abuse Brazil's monopolistic situation on the planet espresso advertise. Prior to World War II, exchange arrangements were utilized for the most part as a wellspring of income or as a reaction to explicit gatherings, for example, the espresso makers, instead of as a methods for accomplishing national financial objectives. In the mid 1950s, Brazil started to utilize exchange arrangement a progressively conscious approach to advance industrialization. The constrained decrease in Brazilian imports after 1929 had brought about the principal major mechanical development in Brazil, focused in Sao Paulo.Heeding this clear exercise, arrangement creators during the 1950s contended that quantifies that intentionally diminished imports would invigorate local creation, in this way promising innovative turn of events and expanding work in exercises that were viewed as more ââ¬Å"modernâ⬠than Brazil's conventional agrarian and extractive exercises. The lofty ascent in world oil costs that started in late 1973 before long finished Brazil's push toward more noteworthy exchange transparency. The estimated balance among imports and fares in the mid 1970s turned into an extraordinary US$4. billion deficiency in 1974. Despite the fact that record levels of outside capital streams financed this shortage, Brazilian strategy creators reacted by limiting imports. In June 1974, import financing for some, items was suspended, while duty rates on in excess of 900 things were multiplied. Throughout the year, limitations were expanded further, and in 1975 the administration n ecessitated that imports be paid for ahead of time with stores that didn't acquire intrigue or any adjustment for expansion. On the fare side, further measures were taken to advance fares, particularly for manufactures.Despite these measures, Brazil's exchange balance stayed in shortfall for the majority of the 1970s. The mix of fixed import controls, genuine devaluation, and the fall in residential interest incited by the prohibitive macroeconomic approaches of the mid 1980s brought about a sharp change in Brazil's outer records. The size of the modification seems to have shocked even huge numbers of its defenders, both in the Brazilian government and among banks. After 1983 the gigantic exchange surpluses arrived at the midpoint of in excess of 3 percent of GDP, contrasted and negative or unimportant levels through a large portion of the 1968-82 period. In 1984, as the full impacts of the modification program were felt, sends out were about twofold imports, and Brazil's exchange su rplus arrived at an exceptional 6. 1 percent of GDP, far surpassing the equivalent offers in other significant economies, for example, Japan (3. 5 percent of GDP) and West Germany (3. 8 percent). By 1984 unmistakably the effective outside change had a residential cost, as expansion quickened to in excess of 200 percent at yearly rates. Exchange strategy therefore started to be seen as a potential instrument for interior adjustment, with some import advancement saw as a potential supporter of decreased inflation. In late 1984, some of the immediate controls on imports were curtailed, and the quantity of items on the negative rundown was diminished considerably. Import financing prerequisites were likewise loose through exclusions, and levy overcharges were supplanted by littler augmentations to the legitimate tax. On the regulatory side, the Cacex strategy of import limitations for equalization of installments designs was decreased. Despite the fact that import licenses were not abrog ated, their endorsement turned into a moderately normal activity, and by 1991 most licenses were being given inside five working days. The CTIC turned out to be fundamentally a revealing and enrollment office, which had little of the optional force once practiced by Cacex. The previous CPA, which had been far dominated by Cacex, was supplanted by an organization corresponding with the CTIC, the Technical Coordinating Office for Tariffs (Coordenadoria Tecnica de Tarifasââ¬CTT). With the move in accentuation in exchange arrangement from optional managerial control to the automaticity of distributed taxes, a significant number of them restricted by Brazil's settlement responsibilities, the CTT's job in figuring import strategy turned out to be essentially more noteworthy than the CPA's had been.Early in 1991, the Collor de Mello government declared a progression of levy decreases to be staged in over the 1991-94 period. These were among the most sweeping and noteworthy decreases in Br azilian exchange security a very long while. Prior tax decreases regularly had been to a great extent restorative, just lessening rates that were restrictive to elevated levels that despite everything banished numerous imports. The 1991 changes went a lot further, and in numerous parts diminished rates to about 33% of their level in the mid 1980s.Equally significant, the changes decreased the wide changeability or scattering of duty rates that were once normal for Brazilian exchange arrangement. The general pattern in Brazilian exchange arrangement is clear. By the mid-1990s, Brazil had become a significantly more open economy than it had been 10 years sooner. needs regarding business bolster Market Overview The Federative Republic of Brazil is Latin America's greatest economy and is the fifth biggest nation on the planet as far as land mass and populace with around 192 million people.Brazilââ¬â¢s economy, the sixth biggest on the planet, grew 2. 7% in 2011. Figuring out how kids learn with #TeachWithKhan educator Tambra Kascic
Figuring out how kids learn with #TeachWithKhan educator Tambra Kascic In a recent interview, our Teacher Community Program Manager, Aviv, spoke to Tambra Kascic, an #alwaysgrowing educator with a special commitment to figuring out how kids learn and sharing her expertise in the #TeachWithKhan Facebook and Twitter communities. Aviv at Khan Academy: Can you describe your journey to becoming a teacher? Tambra: Before I started teaching, I aspired to work in engineering technologies, and wound up working for a military-based supplier company. This is where I worked on various military equipment during Desert Storm and I got the opportunity to inspect the Atlantis space shuttle windows! I decided to re-attend college at age 48 to complete a degree in secondary education mathematics because I got tired of hearing teens say, âI hate math.â This is where I learned about Khan Academy from a grad student who was teaching a biology lab I was enrolled in.Aviv at Khan Academy: Thatâs an incredible journey! How did you address the I-hate-math attitude in your early years of teaching? Tambra: I first taught in Roane County, a rural farm community with a high need for math teachers and then at South Charleston High School, a school with a diverse population of under-resourced students. I taught classes from conceptual math to AP Calculus and implanted problem/project-based learning in all of my classes, much to the dismay of my fellow teachers. I asked to have the desks in rows and columns removed and found round tables so my students could work together and collaborate. Khan Academy became a tool for my students to use when questioning the process or their answers when they worked to complete problems in the classroom. Aviv at Khan Academy: Tell me more about how personalized learning fits into your teaching. Tambra: I decided to work towards my masterâs degree in special education to better understand the teaching process for students with special needs. I wanted to use those skills for students who fell through the cracks in the general education classrooms. After receiving my masters, I accepted a position at the same high school to create an engineering program as well as teach the college dual credit classes and AP Calculus. The engineering project was to increase our students in STEM-related courses and careers and to encourage female students to continue in STEM courses. Our current level of 18% female students enrolled in engineering-type courses is well below the national average, and it is my hope to continue to increase this percentage each year. We are on the right track, and have increased our enrollment by almost 400%, have a 3D printing lab, and opened our first chapter of Skills USA for our school!Aviv at Khan Academy: What are your plans for continuing to personalize learning for all students in the future? Tambra: While my masterâs degree addressed many of the questions I had regarding cognitive learning and how it relates to curriculum, I decided to pursue my doctorate in philosophy with a focus on cognition and curriculum psychology in order to design and implement evidence-based interventions to better serve struggling students. It is my goal to get to the heart of I-hate-math statements and encourage my district to use strategies that change the mindset of students, so they will be more motivated to continue pathways that lead to STEM careers. I am currently working on a research topic relating to psychology, math and learning struggles of students in general education. Through this process, I have continued to use Khan Academy, going as far as becoming an Ambassador in order to train and encourage other teachers to use this amazing tool. Aviv at Khan Academy: Thanks so much for sharing your story with us!Tambra: Thank you for the opportunity! Tagged: teachwithkhan

Essay about Military Justice System in the United States
When one joins the United States military, one becomes subject to a completely new justice system. While the primary purpose of the United States justice system is to dispense justice, that is not the primary reason for the creation of a separate justice system for Americas Armed Forces. The primary purpose of the militarys system is to provide the military commander with necessary tools to enforce good order and discipline. Thats why, for example, its not considered a crime to be late for work at your civilian job, but it is a crime to be late for work in the Military. Sample details Pages: 6 Words: 1933 Downloads: 8 Date added: 2019/07/03 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: Joy Luck Club Essay Did you like this example? The Joy Luck Club, a New York Times bestseller, had an array of stories all telling the struggles of Chinese-American life. The story starts off with the mention of the actual Joy Luck Club. Jing-Mei Woo, is asked by her father to take the place of her mother, Suyuan Woo, in this club, after her passing. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Joy Luck Club" essay for you Create order Because of her passing, Jing-Mei, also known as June, recalls her mothers past experiences unlike the other moms. There are three other moms, each with their own daughter who also voice their life in the story; An-Mei Hsu, mother to Rose Hsu Jordan, Lindo Jong, mother to Waverly Jong, and Ying-ying St. Clair, mother to Lena St. Clair. The only thing that connects these people, is the Joy Luck Club. A major conflict throughout all of these is the loss of culture when their parents immigrate. Rose looks back words her mom had once said: Back home, I thought about what she said [These] were words I had never thought about in English terms. I suppose the closest in meaning would be ?confused and ?dark fog. But really, the words mean much more than that. Maybe they cant be easily translated because they refer to a sensation that only Chinese people have (Tan 210). The only solution for these girls were to start thinking about their parents and background before it was too late: She learned these things How not to show your own thoughts, to put your feelings behind your face so you can take advantage of hidden opportunitiesWhy Chinese thinking is best (Tan 289). June Woo remembers the very beginning of her childhood when her mother insisted she could be a prodigy, just like her friends daughter Waverly. She was forced into piano lessons but soon realized her teacher was deaf, and she need not to practice. She had later embarrassed herself in front of everyone after thinking she could magically play it with no practice, ruining her self-esteem from a young age. Later she tells of how she has a failing career and has been evicted from her own home. Waverly, is eager to point this out at a dinner she looks back on. Her mother supportive though, tells her not to listen to her and that June still has much to accomplish. Years later, she tells of the story of her mother having to leave her home and her twin babies behind because of WW2. After years of searching, the daughters finally get a chance to right back, yet it is too late to meet their mother. Instead, they meet June and her father, finally accomplishing her mothers wish. Waverly the supposed successful daughter, tells of her times as a prodigy. She says how she loved to play chess and won every match. Her mother loved to show her off and pretend she taught her how to play. This angered Waverly because her mother knew nothing of the sort. She later stopped trying and quit because of this very fact. After many years pass, she introduces her second husband Rich. She believes that her mother poisoned her first marriage, and is fearful she will do the same with Rich. She tries to bring the two together by having him come for dinner, yet he makes many mistakes making Waverly lose hope. She goes to tell her mother this the next day, but sees her mother sleeping so peacefully and begins to cry. Her mother awakes to this assuring her she does not hate Rich. Waverly starts to feel as if she has misunderstood her mother her whole life and now wishes to rejoice. Lindos story is a much harder one to read. She had an arranged marriage set up by the time she turned only two. When she was twelve, her family had a flood and she was to move in with her soon-to-be husband. She was married at sixteen after being treated as a servant for the four years she lived there. Her marriage ceremony required a red candle that had each ones name on either end to burn all night. Even though she tried to blow it out, its ashes were still shown the next day, sealing the marriage. However, Lindo is determined to leave. She tells the mother her ancestors have come and warned her if they stay in the marriage her son will die. After this she was released and she moved to America. After her immigration, she worked in a fortune cookie factory where she met another member of the Joy Luck Club, An-Mei, who also introduced her to her future husband. An-Mei grew up without her mother for four years. Her mother left the family to be one of the many wives in an old rich mans mansion. Her mother used to be higher up in the ranking of wives, but had since declined by the time An-Mei had come to live with her. While she was treated well, she could tell her mother was always sad, desperate to get back the attention she wanted. She had soon given up on this dream and told An-Mei she was to kill her spirit to give it to her. Her mother committed suicide the next day and left her daughter to live a better life than she. After this she too immigrated to America. Her daughter, Rose, speaks on how her mother had once been religious. But after a tragic event, one of her sons getting washed away at the beach once, she now used her bible to keep her coffee table stable. While each family member blamed themselves for the death of the son, Rose felt most at fault because she had seen him climbing the rocks and had done nothing, just watched. This story is related back to her current failing marriage. Ted had once made all the decisions, which Rose loved. Yet after he had a work problem, he made her start thinking about things and when she could not make all the choices he wanted, he called for divorce. After getting the divorce papers sent to her, Rose tells Ted that she refuses to sign those papers until she gets the house. She finally feels in charge and feels bad at not listening to her mothers advice to stand up for herself. Another daughter that falls to a failed marriage is the last one, Lena. Her childhood consisted of her being the translator between her mother and father. They lived in an apartment with noisy neighbors and a steep hill on the way there. Her mother had a way of sensing things before they came. When her mother became pregnant again, she had seen that the baby boy would soon die, and he did. This alluded to the present of when her mother comes to visit. She sees a list that Lena and her husband left on the table, a list of all expenses. They keep track of everything and are to split everything equally, even though her husband is making seven times more than her. Her mother disapproves of this but doesnt make a fuss. Later that night her mother had accidentally knocked a vase over. When Lena went to clean it she tells her mother not to worry, that she expected it to happen. To which her mother questions, why she did nothing to prevent it, just as she had done nothing to prevent her fail ing marriage. Ying-ying the last of the mothers, also had a tragic childhood story. While she was only six, she had fallen off a boat and her family had not known. Some fisherman on a boat behind her familys had accidentally picked her up, and left her on shore in hopes her family would come back for her. At the age of sixteen she is set up for an arranged marriage, but luckily feels love for him. However, he did not. After she had already started carrying his son he had left her, and she hated him so much she aborted this son. She became depressed and working at a very easy job. There she met her now husband, and they had gotten married four years after meeting. Although she feels she has let down her own daughter, for having such a weal spirit like her. Trying to change her ways Ying-ying can already see the signs of her daughters failing marriage that her daughter cannot. An important theme throughout all these ladies is the importance of your cultural heritage. Every mother in the novel worries about their daughters losing the important part of themselves. And every daughter believes that the part of themselves the mothers want to keep, isnt worth it. ?What will I say? What can I tell them about my mother? I dont know anything The aunties are looking at me as if I had become crazy right before their eyesAnd then it occurs to me. They are frightened. In me, they see their own daughters, just as ignorantThey see daughters who grow impatient when their mothers talk in Chinese . . . who will bear grandchildren born without any connecting hope passed from generation to generation (Tan 31). After they all come to a realization at some point in their lives, they realize not only should they keep this part of them, but that it is the most important part of them. Another theme in this novel is the power of storytelling. Each four sections of the book begin with a parable that have to do with a theme in the upcoming four stories. Even within those four stories almost every one includes a Chinese myth or superstition that is meant to teach something valuable in their life. In the story Magpie An-Mei tells of a story her mother had told her. Her mother asked her, An-Meihave you seen the little turtle that lives in the pond? Her mother tells her how she has always known that turtle as well, and had once come to the pond to cry to him. The turtle told her ?I have eaten your tears, and this is why I know your misery for which the turtle warns her if she always cries her life will always be sad. Birds then drank from the water and flew in her face for the turtle to reply ?Your tears do not wash away your sorrows. They feed someone elses joy (Tan 244). This story was to teach her daughter that she must swallow her tears in order to not feel sorry for herself all the time. For which her daughter abided to most of her life, as the story was intended for. This story could be connected through the characters of the mothers, to the main character of the story, A Lesson Before Dying. In, A Lesson Before Dying, the main character Grant, goes through some hardships. He grew up black in a southern town in the 1920s and faced discrimination. Not only that but he was told to go help a man on death row feel human again. He did all he could to get this man everything he could to have a good rest of his life and tell him stories of the townspeople. This reminds me somewhat of the mothers in The Joy Luck Club, considering all of them raised their daughters to have a better life than them. They told them stories of their past lives, as Grant did with the townspeople, to try to help their daughters learn things. They also did everything they could to get them the education and proper things they need to continue in the American life.

He repeated the spell three times, louder each moment, but Cassie continued to fade out of consciousness. The whole world diffused; sound ceased. There was nothing. And then all at once she gasped like a drowned woman resuscitated, reclaiming her life with one greedy breath after another. Her vision sharpened with each inhalation, and she climbed to her feet just as Nick raised his hands to call out another spell ââ¬â this time not at Cassie, but up at the ceiling: Motion of heart, current of soul, spark to my hands, at the speed of light. His face took on a lustrous glow and electricity seemed to pass through him, up from his feet and out of his fingertips. The overhead bulbs flashed and then burst, raining down spectacular long-tailed sparks like fireworks. Then the gym went black as night. ââ¬Å"Run,â⬠Nick said, grabbing Cassieââ¬â¢s hand. Their stupefied classmates panicked in the sudden darkness. Cassie could no longer see them, but she could hear them grunting and groaning. Their elbows and knees knocked against the gym floor as they tumbled over one another in a massive stampede. Cassie and Nick raced through the maze of bodies, heading for the emergency exit, without once looking back to see what had become of Scarlett. They stormed through the fire door out to the side parking lot, where they ran straight into the rest of the Circle. ââ¬Å"Are you all right?â⬠Diana asked in alarm. ââ¬Å"What just happened in the gym?â⬠Nick and Cassie hurriedly explained the situation and Dianaââ¬â¢s mouth dropped open. ââ¬Å"Scarlettââ¬â¢s here?â⬠Both Henderson brothers bolted back to the gym to find her. Cassie screamed for them not to, but they were already gone. ââ¬Å"Someone has to stop them,â⬠she cried out. ââ¬Å"Theyââ¬â¢ll get themselves killed.â⬠ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ll go,â⬠Deborah said, taking off in the same direction as the Hendersons. Suzan followed just behind her. Diana searched Cassie for any sign of an injury. ââ¬Å"Are you sure youââ¬â¢re okay? You arenââ¬â¢t hurt?â⬠Cassie nodded. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m fine. I think we got out just in time. Whereââ¬â¢s Adam?â⬠ââ¬Å"Right here.â⬠Adam walked up to the group, looking pale. His hands were trembling slightly and they were empty of Mr. Boylanââ¬â¢s relic. ââ¬Å"Cassie,â⬠he said. ââ¬Å"Have you been out here long?â⬠ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m okay,â⬠Cassie said to reassure him. Adam appeared more shaken than she was. His breathing was heavy and his forehead was soaked with sweat. He scanned the surrounding area with apprehension. ââ¬Å"Scarlettââ¬â¢s nowhere to be found,â⬠Chris called out as he and Doug exited the gym to rejoin the group. Deborah and Suzan were alongside him. ââ¬Å"The lights are still out, but everyone in the gym is back to normal,â⬠Doug said. ââ¬Å"Which is too bad, really. I kind of liked the idea of them all being zombified.â⬠Cassie looked at Nick, happy he was okay. He was so quick to react, and heââ¬â¢d saved her life, but she never intended for him to be in danger like that. Especially with Mr. Boylan and Max around. Nick returned her gaze. He seemed to understand exactly what she was thinking and he smiled reassuringly for her. It was just then that Cassie saw something glisten on the sleeve of his leather jacket. It was dim at first, but once she noticed it, it appeared to shine more clearly. It was the hunter symbol. ââ¬Å"Nick,â⬠she said, but that was the only word she could get out. He registered Cassieââ¬â¢s expression and then watched everyone elseââ¬â¢s face fall into the same shock. ââ¬Å"What?â⬠he asked. ââ¬Å"Why do you all look like youââ¬â¢ve seen a ghost?â⬠ââ¬Å"Your sleeve,â⬠Diana said. ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢ve been marked.â⬠Cassie went to him, but Nick shook her off. He searched his jacket and located the mark. He concentrated hard on it, squinting as if trying to understand it, but had no other reaction. ââ¬Å"So I have,â⬠he said, in a voice as still and cold as stone. Adam barely said a word the whole car ride home to Cassieââ¬â¢s. Cassie didnââ¬â¢t take it personally; she didnââ¬â¢t feel much like making conversation either. What was there to say after an evening like this? But when Adam parked in front of her house, he cut the engine and turned to her like he had something to get off his chest. ââ¬Å"Are you sure you donââ¬â¢t want me to stay on your couch for the night?â⬠he asked. ââ¬Å"Scarlett might still be coming after you.â⬠There was a chill in the air that made Cassie shiver. ââ¬Å"Thank you,â⬠she said. ââ¬Å"But Iââ¬â¢ll be okay. Faye and Laurel are there, and Faye wouldnââ¬â¢t miss the chance to act on some of her anger if Scarlett showed up.â⬠ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s true, I guess.â⬠Adam tapped his fingers on the steering wheel. Cassie was wearing his suit jacket draped over her shoulders to keep warm. She went to take it off and give it back to him, but he stopped her. ââ¬Å"Keep it on a little longer,â⬠he said. He made no motion to restart the carââ¬â¢s engine. Something else was obviously on his mind. Cassie feared she knew what it was. Adam was concerned that Nick being marked would mean heââ¬â¢d have to start spending the night in Cassieââ¬â¢s basement. The two of them would be sleeping under the same roof. She decided to help him along. ââ¬Å"Adam,â⬠she said. ââ¬Å"About Nick staying here â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Adam stared straight ahead. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s not that,â⬠he said. ââ¬Å"Can I ask you one more time what happened when the lights went out in the school?â⬠ââ¬Å"I told you,â⬠Cassie said. ââ¬Å"Nothing happened with Nick while you were gone that you need to worry about.â⬠ââ¬Å"I just need to hear it again.â⬠Cassie had already given Adam a detailed account of her and Nickââ¬â¢s every move from the moment they spotted Scarlett to their escape. But she repeated the story anyway. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s just so strange,â⬠he said, unable to look at her. ââ¬Å"Adam, what are you freaking out about? I know if you had been there when Scarlett showed up, you would have protected me, just like Nick did. I donââ¬â¢t doubt that for a second.â⬠Finally Adam turned to Cassie, allowing her to see his tearful eyes. ââ¬Å"I felt something,â⬠he said. ââ¬Å"An arm brushed up against mine in the chaos.â⬠ââ¬Å"What?â⬠Cassie was confused. ââ¬Å"When the lights went out. I had just come out of Boylanââ¬â¢s office and everyone started running. I was making my way toward the gym when someone grabbed my hand, and it felt like â⬠¦ I donââ¬â¢t even know.â⬠Adam could barely continue, and Cassie began to understand just how upset he was. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s okay,â⬠she said, trying to coax the full truth out of him. ââ¬Å"What did you feel?â⬠ââ¬Å"I thought it was you leading me to safety, but then we got separated. I could have sworn it was you. Because of the sparks I felt.â⬠ââ¬Å"But I was already out of the gym and in the parking lot by that point,â⬠Cassie said. ââ¬Å"It wasnââ¬â¢t me.â⬠There was a moment of silence as it all sank in. ââ¬Å"Oh,â⬠Cassie said, finally comprehending what this meant. Neither of them wanted to say it out loud, but it was obvious. It was Scarlett whoââ¬â¢d grabbed Adamââ¬â¢s hand. The sparks he felt were for her. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s you that I love, Cassie. I swear it.â⬠Adamââ¬â¢s voice rose. ââ¬Å"This doesnââ¬â¢t mean anything.â⬠ââ¬Å"It means the cord between you and Scarlett must be real after all,â⬠Cassie said. ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s the only explanation.â⬠ââ¬Å"I shouldnââ¬â¢t even have told you.â⬠ââ¬Å"Of course you should have told me!â⬠ââ¬Å"This doesnââ¬â¢t change anything.â⬠Adam persisted. But the more he swore and pleaded, the more obvious it was to Cassie that he was just as shaken by this as she was, if not more. ââ¬Å"My hand just got confused,â⬠he said. ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s all.â⬠ââ¬Å"Your hand got confused?â⬠Cassie took an immediate breath to recalibrate her emotions. If she wasnââ¬â¢t careful, her hurt and anger would blow up right in Adamââ¬â¢s face. ââ¬Å"You donââ¬â¢t have to feel guilty,â⬠she said, trying to sound sympathetic. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s not your fault. It just is.â⬠Adam got quiet then. ââ¬Å"But I donââ¬â¢t want this.â⬠Cassie reached over to give Adam a kiss good night. She needed to get out of his car as quickly as possible. ââ¬Å"I know,â⬠she said. ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t worry too much about it. Weââ¬â¢ll be okay.â⬠ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s it? Donââ¬â¢t you think we should talk about this?â⬠Adam asked. Cassie slipped Adamââ¬â¢s suit jacket from her shoulders. It smelled like him, like autumn leaves and ocean wind. She gently folded it and placed it on his lap. Then she put her hand on the door handle. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s going to be okay,â⬠she said, knowing she had to appear strong for Adam in this moment. Adam could always be relied on to reassure Cassie. Now it was her turn. ââ¬Å"Cassie, please donââ¬â¢t go.â⬠ââ¬Å"Letââ¬â¢s sleep on it,â⬠she said, as sweetly as she could. And then borrowing a favorite phrase of her motherââ¬â¢s, she added, ââ¬Å"Everything will look brighter tomorrow.â⬠She got out of the car and almost made it to the front door before tears filled her eyes and began running down her face. But Adam couldnââ¬â¢t see them, and that was all that mattered. How to cite The Secret Circle: The Hunt Chapter 8, Essay examples

Hopi Indians And Their Pottery Essay Example For Students
Hopi Indians And Their Pottery Essay Hopi Indians lived in the western part of America Arizona. Their civilization is about 3000 years old and they usually farmed for living. The Hopi reservation is a remote area, comprising approximately 650,000 acres, and is surrounded on all sides by the Navajo Reservation. The Hopi people have lived in this area for over a thousand years, with one of its native villages on Old Oraibi, having the distinction of being the oldest continuously inhabited village in the United States. Hopi brought a lot of influences to many people. Hopi people were famous for their pots they make. Hopi pottery is assumed to have been made by women, there are few early historic references to men making pottery. Pottery varied from village to village so all the neighboring villages showed different blending of style. Hopi pottery are made very similar today as the olden days just that now days, it is much expensive. Modern Hopi potters make their pottery in the traditional manner. The clay is hand dug on the Hopi mesas and hand processed. The pots are carefully hand constructed using the coil and scrape techniques their ancestors taught them. The paints used are from naturally occurring materials. For example, boiling Beeweed for a long time until it becomes very dark and thick makes black paint. Before making a pottery, they found clay near the ocean or by inland streams and pond. They would wedge the clay to help remove air bubbles from the clay. If air is not removed from the clay pottery may break or crack when dried and fired. They tasted the clay to choose which clay is better. They picked sweet clay because it would be smoother than the bitter clay. After choosing which clay they were going to use, they started to make the pot, known as the coil pot method. They would roll a piece of clay into a thin line. After, they would add the thin line and built it up step by step placing the rolled up clay on top of each other. The inside of the pinch pot was smothered and joined. They would use a shell or a broken pot to smooth the pot and to make it in shape to compress cracks and to smooth the pot for decoration. They would also put white powder on it and rub it with sandstone to smoothen it. At the end, they would fire the pot. Before firing, they warmed the pot and also dry it. After drying slowly for several days, they pottery would be ready to be baked in a fire. They used sheep dong and broken pots to put on top of the made pots. The pots would stand on rocks and sheep dong pots would be up side down. The temperature would rise 1500 degrees or more and they would avoid any rapid temperature changes. Decorations were also important for the Hopi potteries. They would draw the decoration with a yacca a brush-chewed on the end. Theà colorings were made up of tanzy and compounds. The designs and symbols vary from one artist to the other. Designs were usually animals and shape. The symbols on the pots came from mythological and religious ideas, especially of the psychological elements of sympathetic magic. Symbols were also often used to influence supernatural beings, which often explains artistic motifs. The pots there designed and buried, containing food and other materials. This showed us that the Hopis thought about their after life.
